IHI will evaluate the study which is being implemented by Aga Kahn University Eat Africa (AKU) in Mwanza region. It will include two-stage of field activities, the 1st phase being the assessment phase which will commerce with the protocol development, seeking ethics reviews/approvals from relevant authorities hence be followed by the mapping of appropriate implementation milestones. The study will mainly involve targeted interviews with key informants and implementers from selected SRH centers in Mwanza region. Alongside, a fieldwork exercise will further map all possible influencers/ duty bearers and key stakeholders from the IMPACT that will later form the team of targeted stakeholders for the implementation during second phase of this research. In the phase the implementation of the agreed intervention package will aim to improve SRH. The second phase of this research will be preceded by the action-based dissemination of the findings that was gathered hence analyzed from the first phase. Finally, the study seeks to identify and test equitable quality SRH service point model(s) that meet the demands and needs of the adolescent population in the region and inform policy makers and strategic development. The Overall Objectives The overall objective of this study is to explore information on knowledge gap to teenage pregnancies, assessing the adolescents sexual and reproductive health demands and need, and the responsiveness of the health care systems in Mwanza region. Specific Objectives I. To address the evidence gap in the body of knowledge related to teenage pregnancies in Mwanza Region, Tanzania. II. To equitable access quality of SRH service for adolescents in Mwanza Region, Tanzania. III. To identify appropriate strategies to address adolescents SRH demands in the Region. IV. To identify appropriate strategies to address adolescents SRH needs in the Region. V. To test effective adolescent-centered equitable quality SRH intervention model(s) at service points in the Region. VI. To test effective adolescent-centered equitable quality SRH intervention model(s) at the community level in Mwanza Region. Project Planning Activities, Progress & Way Forward The project leaders are planning to start finalizing of the protocol including study tools and obtaining ethics approval from both IHI and NIMR. The PI has identified relevant scientists in IHI as listed in the study protocol to run this study. Most of the staff under this study have already obtained specific training on human subject research. IHI will work closely with AKU in the field to timely gather data, analyse and disseminate results to AKU and local partners in Mwanza. Details of timeframe, data management, and project implementation milestone are provided in the IRB protocol that can be supplied on request. A working budget is supplied of which we soon expect initial installment of funds (as per agreement) to allow kick off preparations in IHI.
